8:31 pm - oh lj....are you still alive? just barely?
ok....so i haven't written in this sorry excuse for a journal in soooooooooo long. what's up with me? seems like myspace is the new lj. so here are a lot of random thoughts.

i'm moving to silverlake which i'm excited about. i hope i actually do stuff there and make some new friends. i want to bike more and go on hikes.

i want to make my studio look cute. i want to get my elementary credential and actually start teaching in the fall (fingers crossed).

i think the new shins song is good, but people are raving too much about them. they are the new death cab for cutie in terms of indie mainstream darlings. i'm already tired of the new song and i'm not sure if i'm gonna buy the new album.

i dont like the new clap your hands song and i never even listened through the entire first album, so maybe i'm not being fair.

the new issue of domino is cool because it show's makino and amadeo's apartment (of blonde redhead) and has a blurb about their home furnishing style.

man, coachella's line up is good. too bad it's spread over 3 days. they never put all the good bands on one bill. i hate festivals though, especially when they're in the desert during the summer. who's going to this? i still dream of seeing bjork up close although i'm not sure that's going to happen. why is it so expensive?!!!

maybe i should go to pitchfork's intonation festival instead, it's a better value.

i despise packing and cleaning, and i'll probably despise unpacking as well.

gosh, i want oki dogs to happen! i better bust out that bass!

6:53 pm - ugh! i think i lost my cellphone...
this sucks! on top of that, i have way too much stuff to do! life is not very fun right now, nor is it relaxing. i need to learn how to destress and manage my time in a healthier manner.

5:21 pm - grant mclennan : (

i love the go betweens and it was a bummer finding out that grant mclennan passed away. i'm really kicking myself for missing their last tour in the states. i found out through tshirtweather's myspace that he died at 48 today. he was so young. at least we still have his wonderful music to remember him by. the go-betweens wrote perfect pop songs that were intelligent yet they were totally underrated and unappreciated as a band. at least they seem to be receiving more recognition now. "dive into your memory" is such a perfect song.

1:53 am - joanna newsom
wow... i went to arthurfest in echo park and to be honest...i didn't see much. i felt like i had a lot of work to do, so i just wanted to make it in time to see joanna newsom.

she looks different from the pictures. she's really beautiful and looks like a russian ice skater or a celebrity. she played about 5 new songs that were really long opuses. it was just really amazing watching her play the harp and sing. sort of surreal music. the music lined up for arthurball seemed really eclectic/random because the band before joanna, OM, was like a stoner rock band.

5:04 pm - bike!
I'm so happy today. mei and i checked out 3 different bike stores because i need a bike for the acura bike marathon. we went to wheel world in culver city, performance bikes in santa monica, and helen's cycles. i was looking for a light hybrid because road bikes are too expensive for me. at wheel world they carried giants and specialized. mei swears by giants. i rode 3 different models but they just didnt seem quite right. the comfort bikes were comfortable but really ugly and heavy. the more roadbikeish hybrid was bordering on uncomfortable. mei thought the pedals on all the bikes were cheap.

people at performance bikes were unfriendly/unhelpful. they did not have a large selection of hybrids. i think they really only had about 2. i tried one and the gear shifters were weird and hard to shift. i had to wait 30 min before a salesperson helped me. i feel like they didn't have very good service there but they were understaffed. i felt like the person was trying to sell the fuji which i thought was marginal.

we finally stopped at helen's cycle which is within walking distance of my apt. i tried 2 types of trek hybrids. i fell in love with the red one. the shifters and brakes are so smooth. and the sales people are really friendly and personable. it was also not as expensive as i thought it would be. the price of my bike was about the same as the marginal bike at performance. i was so stoked with my bike that i rode it up a steep alleyway to my apartment. it was surprisingly not as difficult as i had imagined. it was actually fun.
i can't wait to ride my bike around. the only thing i fear is it getting stolen...

i look like a major dork though. my helmet and bike match perfectly...sort of this maroon red shade...i'm excited to ride though!

why does the new yeah yeah yeahs track ("gold lion") sound like a tegan and sara b side? i like yyys, but this new track is a lil' weird. knowing me i'd probably buy the new album anyway.

8:41 am - sweet lemons?!
sweet lemons were my new discovery at the farmers market yesterday. they really blew my mind. i guess they aren't acidic and may be native to persia or something. you have to give them a try, they taste different in a good refreshing sort of way.

8:35 am - new journal, new year....
so this is 2006! it's a bit weird how time really does go by more quickly when you are older. it feels surreal... a lot of people around my age seem to be getting married or are pregnant with kids and i'm still struggling with doing my homework and balancing my checkbook while trying to finish reading the chronicles of narnia while daydreaming that my scooter will be fixed with an awesome paintjob.

it's cheesy to fall into the convention of coming up with resolutions for the new year, but so what? it's sorta fun... but here's my list

1)being vegan - i've been wanting to do this for awhile. i've been vegetarian for about 5 yrs or so, and never really committed to being vegan. so what the hey! i decided to do it, and it's definitely easier than i thought. yay for that!

2)not to fall behind in school - i feel i might've broken that one but i guess it's about trying

3)exercising more - boring but practical

4) playing a show with my band sometime this year

5) fixing up my lammy by summer so it's rideable and looks ok

6) being more cognizant (sp?) of the world and what's going on in general because i'm clueless most of the time

7) having a better walk with Jesus and try to get into the habit of reading the Word

8) making a scooter zine that has some stuff about vintage scooters but also other things that interest me like vegan cooking

i guess that's all i can think of for the moment.
